Someone once said that being a journalist is like having a front row seat to history. Well, I've been sitting in that seat for more than 15 years and I want to share the view with you. Front Row will keep you informed of what's really going on in your community and across the nation. Send news tips, pictures, or videos to michellemccalope@gmail.com. I'd love to hear from you!

Melton YMCA Getting a Facelift
Councilman Jamie Smith and Cheryl Guidry are spearheading a makeover at the L.L. Melton YMCA on Sarah St. in Beaumont. A new Y is being built on the West end of town, so they wanted to do something to spruce up this location as well. More than a dozen volunteers gathered Saturday to paint the rooms, remove old cabinets and furniture, and trim the shrubs. The plan is to make the facility more attractive and more modern so that more residents and their children will ulitize it. This was the third cleanup that has been held so far, but organizers say there is still plenty of work to do. If you'd like to volunteer your time, talents, or give monetary donations, call Smith at (409) 880-3716 or Cheryl Guidry at (409) 351-2814. Special thanks to the members of the Antioch Baptist Church Men's Ministry, the Brock Group which donated the paint, and other volunteers that were present including John Guidry, Felicia Young, Dee Dixon, Camille Briggs, Bobbie Patterson, Tanisha Richard, Ed Garriett and Traci and Wagdy Rizk.
