SETX Mavericks Have a New Female President/Owner

The SETX Mavericks new sole Owner Jerry Nelson announced at a news conference Tuesday that his daughter Candace Griffin is now the president and majority owner (he gave her 60 percent)of the team. It was one of many changes Nelson and Coach Steve Tucker discussed about the upcoming season. In addition to the new owners and new sponsors, the team has new players and a new attitude. Seems everyone is excited! "We're going to be the number one team in the country," Nelson said. He has every reason to believe that given the team won 25 straight games last year and the division championship. And the talent has gotten even better. Coach Tucker bragged "we have signed seven of the top 12 ABA players to play here next year."
Officials say they will be reaching out to the community so everyone feels that this is "their" team. Their goal is to bring quality family entertainment to Southeast Texas. For more information, call (409) 951-5400.
