Seals running for Jefferson County Clerk; Other candidates emerge

Derwin Seals, a Jefferson County Sheriff's Department jail sergeant, has put his hat in the ring to run for Jefferson County Clerk against Incumbent Carolyn Guidry.
Seals has been employed by the county for 17 years. He worked in the county clerk's office his first three years.
"I have the experience," he tells Front Row. "I know the foundation of the office and the structure of the office as well as daily operations."
During a phone interview, County Clerk Guidry says she is definitely running again. She's been in the office since 2004. She says she wants to continue to improve customer service and technology and make the office more accessible to the public.
The primary election will be held in March. Meanwhile, other candidates who have filed paperwork in the clerk's office so they can start raising money are: Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy Brent Weaver for Commissioner Precinct 2 against Incumbent Mark Domingue who has also filed; Beaumont City Councilman Jamie Smith for Commissioner Precinct 4 which is currently held by Commissioner Everette Bo Alfred and Jeff Branick (who is currently an assistant to the county judge) for Jefferson County Judge.
The official candidate filing deadline is Jan. 2.
