Someone once said that being a journalist is like having a front row seat to history. Well, I've been sitting in that seat for more than 15 years and I want to share the view with you. Front Row will keep you informed of what's really going on in your community and across the nation. Send news tips, pictures, or videos to michellemccalope@gmail.com. I'd love to hear from you!

Lamar University gets national kudos
Lamar University has been recognized as one of 2009’s Great Colleges to Work For by The Chronicle of Higher Education, the nation’s leading source of news for and about colleges and universities.
Lamar University was one of 39 colleges nationwide, and the only public college in Texas, named to an Honor Roll because of the number of categories in which it was recognized for best practices. It was one of 10 large four-year colleges recognized on a list that included Cornell University, Duke University and the University of Notre Dame.
LU was recognized for perception of and confidence in fair treatment; internal communications; work/life balance; professional/career-development programs; healthy faculty-administration relations; respect and appreciation; collaborative governance; and confidence in senior leadership.
Overall, the survey recognized 150 colleges and universities nationwide for best practices in one or more categories based on responses from administrators, faculty and professional staff.
