Houston Reporter Carjacked, forced to drive to Beaumont

A television reporter said he became a kidnap and robbery victim early this morning while he was on his way to work.

Police said KTRK-TV (Channel 13) Eric James told investigators that a man with a semiautomatic handgun forced his way into his car and abducted him about 3 a.m. in the 2500 block of West Creek Lane near Westheimer.

James said he was released about four hours later, when the man got out of the car in the 800 block of Cavalcade near Irvington. He stole about $40 in cash.

James was not injured.

Channel 13 reported that the man forced James to drive to Beaumont, where he wanted to see his child. In Beaumont, the man called the child's mother, but her father answered the phone and told him not to come to their house.

Then the man demanded that James drive him back to Houston, where he got out of the car and fled.
