Annual BMT Jazz Fest Features Diverse Performers



Enjoy a night of Jazz + Blues under the stars at the 5th Annual City of Beaumont Jazz + Blues Fest in Downtown Beaumont on Saturday, May 8, 2010.
This year’s event includes two stages with ten bands for $8. Live performances by Grammy Nominated & Blues Award Winner John Lee Hooker, Jr., Barbara Lynn, Dean James, Jimmy Simmons, Shawn Pittman, Ashlynn Ivy, Rhett Butler, J.Sylvester, Lil Brian and the Remember When Orchestra. There will also be food and arts and crafts vendors.
The Beaumont Jazz + Blues Fest was established by the City of Beaumont and Southeast Texas Arts Council to promote the revitalization of historic downtown Beaumont and the arts. The event is paid for by grants and sponsors. Proceeds from the gate will benefit the Southeast Texas Arts Council.
Beaumont Mayor Becky Ames will present Barbara Lynn with the Dr. Raul Ornelas Lifetime Music Achievement Award. The award was named in honor of the Lamar University professor who was also an accomplished trumpet player and bass guitarist. He died in 2008.
Nearly 4,000 people are expected to attend this year’s festival.
